How We Tested
Lab testing doesn’t reflect reality. Technicians use these apps in basements with no signal, on rooftops in the rain, with dirty gloves, and on phones they bought three years ago. So that’s exactly how we tested.
Our protocol:
- 2 weeks of daily use across real job sites
- Devices: current iPhone 15, 3-year-old Samsung Galaxy A52, iPhone 12 with cracked screen protector
- Coverage conditions: full 5G, spotty rural LTE, and complete dead zones (basements, metal buildings)
- Work gloves worn for half the tests
- Rain testing on 3 separate occasions

The Winner: Housecall Pro
Housecall Pro’s mobile app is the clear winner. Large, glove-friendly buttons. Fast load times even on the older Samsung. Offline mode that actually works - we completed full job documentation in a basement with zero signal, and everything synced when we got back to the truck.
The camera integration for job photos is smooth - tap, capture, it’s attached to the job. No navigating through menus. The one-tap payment processing from the field is a genuine time saver that other apps make unnecessarily complicated.
This is an app built by people who understand that technicians have dirty hands and three seconds of patience.
The Surprise: Connecteam
Connecteam’s mobile app was our second favorite, which surprised us given it’s not a traditional FSM tool. The GPS time clock with geofencing worked perfectly - clock in only when you’re at the job site. Digital forms and checklists were easy to complete on-screen, and the built-in chat kept crew communication in one place.
The limitation is that Connecteam isn’t a full FSM app - you won’t be creating invoices or processing payments. But for workforce management features, it’s excellent on mobile.
The Disappointment: ServiceTitan
ServiceTitan’s mobile app is functional but underwhelming, with a 3.0 App Store rating that reflects real issues. On the older Samsung, load times were noticeably slower - 3–4 seconds to open a job vs. under 1 second on Housecall Pro.
Some screens feel like desktop interfaces shrunk to mobile rather than purpose-built mobile experiences. The price presentation feature is powerful but requires too many taps to navigate during a customer conversation.
The app works fine for viewing schedules and basic job updates. If your techs need anything more sophisticated in the field, they’ll be frustrated.
Offline Mode: The Critical Test
We put every app in airplane mode and tried to complete core workflows. This is the test that matters most - your techs will inevitably be in dead zones.
Full Functionality Offline
- Housecall Pro: Full job completion, photo uploads queued, notes saved. Everything synced on reconnect. Excellent.
Partial Functionality Offline
- Jobber: Schedule viewing worked offline. Job updates saved locally. Photo uploads sometimes failed to queue. Good but not flawless.
- Connecteam: Time clock works offline with GPS cached. Forms partially available. Decent for workforce features.
Limited Offline
- FieldPulse: Job details viewable but updates require connection.
- Contractor+: Basic offline viewing. Limited functionality without connection.
- ServiceTitan: Basic schedule viewing only. Most features require active connection. Problematic for field use.
Glove Test Results
We wore standard work gloves (leather palm, synthetic back) and tried to complete a full job workflow on each app:
- Housecall Pro: Passed. Buttons are large enough, spacing is generous.
- Connecteam: Passed. Clock-in button is oversized by design - smart.
- Jobber: Mostly passed. A few smaller buttons required removing a glove.
- Contractor+: Mostly passed. Similar to Jobber.
- FieldPulse: Struggled. Some menu items are too close together.
- ServiceTitan: Struggled. Desktop-style UI doesn’t translate to large fingers.
Our Recommendation
If mobile performance is your top priority - and for field service, it should be - Housecall Pro is the clear choice. No other app comes close to its combination of speed, offline capability, and field-friendly design.
For workforce management specifically, Connecteam’s mobile experience is excellent.
If you’re choosing Jobber or ServiceTitan for other reasons (and there are good ones), know that the mobile experience is adequate but not exceptional. Your techs will adapt, but they won’t love it the way Housecall Pro users love their app.
